The Land of Bogs and the Little People denotes the small finger of marshy land which juts out into the Inner Sea. If few travelers have ventured into Haggelthorn Forest, fewer yet have braved the Land of Bogs and the Little People. The Little People are, of course, the gnomes which have populated the area since the beginning of the Third Age. A low lying crescent of hills defines the southern boarder of the gnome kingdom. The other boundaries are made by the sea. The marshes are found both above and below the River White, but the southern land seems to be the most favored by the gnomes. On occasion, a small traveler makes his way from the bogs to Dragonsford or Paddington to trade or buy merchandise. These small adventurers almost always travel in fives (the reason is not known). Woe to the adventurer who goes uninvited into the Land of Bogs and the Little People. Strange tales of swamp creatures as big as houses, eerie lights and sounds, and an occasional escaped prisoner from the nearby penal island keep the nearby inhabitants out of the moors at night.

The Land of Bogs and the Little People contains all of the area east of the Ashen Forest and Haggelthorn Forest and just north and south of the River White. The bogs are formed by the numerous small tributaries that run through the area. A damp and smelly place, the bogs are filled with low hills. These hills are the home to the gnomes. Most of the gnomes in middle earth live in the bogs. They are very private, and only a few trade or have anything to do with the outside world. The gnomes live burrowed into the small hills much like moles. Although not instantly hostile, most wanderers avoid the Little People and do not trespass on their lands.
