The Cleft

The Cleft was formed several hundred years ago when Mount Terrak exploded into a violent volcano. It is a large section of the plains that dropped several hundred feet into the frozen sea. Mount Terrak to this day remains a smoking giant. The island that it formed is almost continuously shrouded in heavy clouds of fog and mist. There are many legends to the monsters and evil that have sprung forth from this scar on the plains. As far as it is known, there are no living creatures on the cleft.

Hellfurnaces

The Hellfurnaces Range is active volcanically in many places and thus its name. The Hellfurnaces are a hive of evil, being populated with all sorts of monsters, particularly those who enjoy warmer temperatures. There are reported to be whole labyrinths of passages under this range of mountains, these underworld highways actually going for hundreds of miles south under the Plains of the Beast.

White Fang Bay

The ice formations common to this body of water resemble the teeth of a predator, and thus the bay is named for the great ice-coated rocks and bergs that menace vessels attempting to land along its shores. In the summer, numbers of seals, walruses, and odder creatures bask along these rocky coasts, and there parties of hunters seek after ivory and furs. Some say that the name of the place is based upon the long teeth taken from these creatures rather than the icicles and frozen spray.
