The Dragonsbreath Mountains form an impenetrable barrier between the civilized lands to the north and the forbidden lands of fire an smoke to the south. As such, they have always been a feared place, a land shrouded in darkness and shunned by men. The Dwarves of Calin settled here to build their great furnaces and forges sometime in the late First Age. The inhospitable climate further enhanced the reclusive nature of Calin's clan as they built their cities under the mountains. For several thousand years, the furnaces of Calinshold, rumored to be fired by ancient red dragons, have produced the greatest armor and weapons in the Realm. Iron, steel and mithril are forged in this dark realm, distributed throughout the world by closed-lipped dwarven traders dressed in their black robes and protected by deadly black great axes. The capital of Calinshold, the great dwarven city Hellsmouth, is more a place of legend than reality.
