March of Wirkswirth
Although a defensive fortification has existed at the site of Rivershaw Castle for many centuries, certainly dating back to the Orcish Wars of the mid-fourth century TA, the present structure was completed in 715 TA as part of the establishment of the March of Wirkswirth. The March is a military region with very little farming or agriculture. While the lands are fertile, the area is still too wild to support large-scale farming efforts. The leader of Wirkswirth is the Lord March, who long ago set up the tradition of accepting any man or woman who is willing to denounce their family ties and fight orcs for his kingdom. While Wirksworth has become home to significant population of criminals and the disenfrancished, it remains a well ordered under the iron-fisted rule of the Lord March.
