The Death of Jonathan Drake

Prologue

March has been cold and wet – filled with grey overcast skies. You are returning from Gravewrath Green, a King of Clubs country home, after a week of hunting, fishing and country air. Already, you feel the narrow alleys of London crowding in on you. You have been traveling with five club members and, due to train delays, have arrived late into Victoria Station in central London. A decision is made to walk the few blocks to the Stone Gargoyle Freehouse on Coburg Close near Vincent Square – a bit out of the way, but an excellent English meat pie and wonderful bitters.

An hour later, warm and full, the six of you are making your way back down to Victoria Street to hail a Hansom cab. Conversation is light and jovial. The night air is thicker now and your footsteps echo hollowly down the cobblestones. The moon hangs bloated and full over the Thames behind you. A cool mist is in the air, coming off the water, not uncommon for this time of year. Suddenly, you hear a sharp scream from a block away. Running towards the sound, you arrive just in time to see an ominous darkness creep around the corner and hear the flapping of wings. At your feet is the mangled corpse of Jonathan Drake. The adventure begins...
