Cavewight as described in Teufeldorf, March 907 TA

March 4th, 907 TA

Damn the Beneficent Overlord (little mage) for bringing us across a continent to do his bidding. May my father take his time eating the Beneficent Overlord (runt). And damn the stupidity of the lower demons. May they spend a few centuries enduring torture until they learn how to understand simple concepts.

We have spent the past few months travelling around the coast of the Western Reaches and had finally reached the outskirts of Teufeldorf on the evening of March 3rd. No sooner had we set our sights on the city than the “great” Hylax teleported on deck. He told us that in addition to our task of finding the Ranger’s Gate for him, he had another job for us. King Vincent had found the lair of a group of demons that had been harassing the city since the covenant had been broken, and had sent a group of knights, along with three dragons and a group of demon specialists to handle them.

Surprisingly, the Beneficent Overlord (munchkin) didn’t want us to help the king, instead wanting us to thwart the attack and gain the trust of the demons in order to find out what they were looking for. He would give us a way to stop any scrying of the battle, and a way to contact him once it was over. For this, he would give each of us 15,000 gold pieces. A chance to kill demon hunters while helping our kind, we couldn’t resist.

We put the Wanton Wench into stealth mode and flew around the town towards the hill where the demons were holed up. The dragons were already there, circling their prey to ensure none of the demons escaped. We decided we needed a distraction, and boy did Chironomous give us one. He created a tornado just outside the city gates, and had it fly directly towards the hill, and towards the path the knights were taking. The tornado created a bunch of havoc, and in the confusion, Wrane and I teleported to the entrance of the ruins the demons were hiding in. We brushed past the two guards, slapping them for questioning who we were, and went down to meet with the main group.

They were all grunts, urviles and cave wights. Barely two IQ between the lot of them. They told us that they were under orders from their leader Zaff’ron to cause havoc while he searched for a painting inside the city of the Ranger’s Gate. We tried to get them to leave, letting them know that to stay was suicide, but they stubbornly refused. They said they had to stay, and so they stayed. We had the information though, and so these imbeciles were expendable. We teleported back to the ship to leave these demons to their fate and headed back to see so that we could go to port officially.

Once there, we used the device that Hylax had given us and we were teleported to a tavern inside the city. We informed him that we had the information he wanted, and we exchanged it for the money. We then offered our services to find the painting in exchange for 24,000 gp apiece and a major magical item. He agreed, and with that we had our next objective.

We are now grabbing room and board for the night, and tomorrow we will both gather magical supplies and search for this painting that everyone wants. Once we have it, we will see what we do with it. We are not just some bit part players in Hylax’s game and I refuse to be treated as such.
