As its name implies, South Province lies south of the Barony of Highfolk and the Dutchy of Middlefield in the central valley of the Eastern Reaches. Unlike most of the kingdoms of the Eastern Reaches, South Province is comprised of four distinct areas: northern farmlands, an extensive forest known as the Silver Wood, a large lake region within the confines of the woods, and southern farmlands. As such, its peoples have a wide variety of occupations and skills. Deciding against a hereditary earl, the South Province is ruled by an elected Lord Mayor. The Lord Mayor holds the rank of earl in matters of the Crown.
For most of its existence, the position of Lord Mayor has been held by a northern farmer - a steady lot whose only interest is in crops and market prices. However, at times, the rule has been wrested by others. During Hastur's Dominion, the South Province was ruled by Tavish II who abolished elections during his reign. More recently, Lord Mayor Elizabeth the White swore allegiance to Irongate above the Crown. While her reign was short, it cast a decidedly dark and decadent pall over the region.
The current Lord Mayor is Salmon Wiley. A woodsman from the Silver Wood, he is called Lord Green by many because of his penchant for green clothes. It is said that Lord Green wears a cape made of green dragon hide. His sword is fashioned from green dragon scales. Lord Green is a wild, somewhat unpredictable leader. He spends some time in the capital of Farmingham, but he has been reported being seen riding throughout his kingdom. Many feel Lord Green's term as Lord Mayor will, as with many of his predecessors, be a short one.
Currently, Lord Green is raising funds to hunt green dragons in Haggelthorn Forest.

Long Lake
This body of water is the largest fresh water lake in the fertile farmlands of the Eastern Reaches, and it has many navigable inlets and outlets. Its central position combined with a navigable river routes makes it a bustling trade hub. One of the most unusual features of the lake is the people who make their home upon great barges. These folk travel about trading, fishing, and generally earning their entire livelihood upon the bounty of the lake. Being both clever at barter and trade and able fighters as well, these folk are seldom molested. They are said to be skillful thieves by some, but such charges are unproven, although quite possible, and are ardently denied by the bargees.
Silver Wood
Surrounding the bustling shores of Long Lake, the Silver Wood is a well-traveled wood. It's confines are peaceful and serene, and it holds an almost magical calming presence among all who enter its cool confines. Several human hamlets are built in the confines of the woods, its townsfolk living in relative harmony with the wood. The Silver Wood is named for a small grove of silver oaks which grow on its western shores. This grove is home to a small group of druids who tend to the forest and its denizens.
